is a highly acclaimed and long-running spoken word salon created, hosted, and curated by Wendy Hammers. Now in our second smash decade, and having presented over 100 original evenings of story and music, Tasty Words serves up hilarious and horrifying real life stories read and performed by the people who wrote them.

The Story Behind The Stories:

In 2001, 9/11 happened. A year later, my dear friend Judy Toll died and my 14 year marriage ended. At the time, I thought if I don’t create a place for my friends and I to get on stage and tell our stories, our heads will explode. That’s when Tasty Words was born.

We started in a children’s bookstore on Montana Ave. in Santa Monica with folding chairs and some cookies and milk. Tickets were five bucks and if we had a dozen people we were happy. Since then, we’ve done over 100 shows and the loyal and enthusiastic tasty fans have supported and nurtured these storytellers month in and month out for over a decade.

To Submit for Consideration:

Please submit a story of 1,200 words or less. I like jpegs, pdfs, or in the body of the email. Make sure that the theme is mentioned in the subject line and your name is in the body of the submission. I can’t count how many times I’ve wanted to book somebody and their name was nowhere to be found.

Finally, if I don’t know you or your work, and you haven’t seen a Tasty show live, that is the first step. Come see what it is all about and shake my hand or give me a hug and introduce yourself after the show. That’s how I roll. Thanks for all.

Can’t wait to hear your stories.
