In 2001, 9/11 happened. A year later, my dear friend Judy Toll died and my 14 year marriage ended. At the time, I thought if I don’t create a place for my friends and I to get on stage and tell our stories, our heads will explode. That’s when Tasty Words was born.
We started in a children’s bookstore on Montana Ave. in Santa Monica with folding chairs and some cookies and milk. Tickets were five bucks and if we had a dozen people we were happy. Since then, we’ve done over 100 shows and the loyal and enthusiastic tasty fans have supported and nurtured these storytellers month in and month out for over a decade.
Please submit a story of 1,200 words or less. I like jpegs, pdfs, or in the body of the email. Make sure that the theme is mentioned in the subject line and your name is in the body of the submission. I can’t count how many times I’ve wanted to book somebody and their name was nowhere to be found.
Finally, if I don’t know you or your work, and you haven’t seen a Tasty show live, that is the first step. Come see what it is all about and shake my hand or give me a hug and introduce yourself after the show. That’s how I roll. Thanks for all.
Can’t wait to hear your stories.

“Wendy put together a wonderful selection of funny, creative people including herself. I love the environment, and I loved every single person that I saw. Please let everyone know that it was a treat to see a handful of extremely funny, truthful, eloquent, and I dare say, special people.”
“With Tasty Words, Wendy has created one of the most inviting spaces to perform in. I always feel that my work will be met by an audience that is smart, open and hungry to share the human experience. The audience is there because Wendy attracts them. On top of that, she has created one of the healthiest artistic communities that I’ve ever been in. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of her world.”
“Wendy Hammers and Tasty Words is everything this comedian/writer dreams of. A tightly produced program filled with A-List talent that gets to perform in front of a smart, appreciative crowd. And to top it all off, Wendy is such a pro that she not only seamlessly keeps the show interesting, but she also gets your credits right when you’re introduced. I hope Tasty Words continues to enjoy the success it richly deserves.”
